  • I (30M) recently got married to my wife (27F). I have a dog that is 5 years old and have had him since he was puppy.
  • She also has a dog as well. My wife and I did not live together before getting married, although she stayed at my house most of the week before we did.

  • She recently told me that she thinks my dogs dander and hair is affecting her Asthma and wants me to get rid of the dog.
  • I do believe her and I am concerned for her health but my problem is that she did not tell me this way before.

  • I have removed my dog from entering our bedroom or sleeping in our bed, I am giving him fish oil, brushing him daily and plan to give him a bath at least every other week.
  • We have an air purifier in our room that has a HEPA filter for pet dander.
  • We vacuumed the whole house including our bedroom and washed the sheets to get rid of the hair and dander in the bedroom.
  • It has been less than a week and she hasn't even given it a chance to start working.
  • When she would stay over at my house before we married, my dog would sleep in our bed and right next to her and she didn't voice her concern once then but now she's completely flipped the script and isn't giving me anytime or patience to combat the issue without getting rid of my dog.
  • I think that we should exhaust all options before going to the extreme of getting rid of him but she is saying if I don't she'll go back and live with someone else already.
  • If she had told me this sooner then we would've been able to see what works and what doesn't but now I'm being rushed into this and feel like I'm being threatened.
  • I told her to see an allergist too to see if it could also be something else which she agreed to but hasn't pursued.
  • Status-Fisherman8252 The dog is not the problem here.....
  • Currency Background83 I'm high this comment to say look at his profile. He had a post that was removed but from the comments it sounds like 2 months ago he was having other issues with his then fiancé now wife being demanding and controlling. Looks like he had a roommate and she was demanding he just kick him out after she already agreed and she was not living there at the time. There were commentors calling out right there that she was a red flag and it was likely to get worse. It seems like a
  • OP pychop10 That was me and an update for that, he moved out right when he was supposed to.
  • auntiecrow Or "get out" and get hit by a car
  • OP pychop10 She couldnt say that because he won't even go out of the front door until I have him on a leash and the backyard is fenced in. I've had the gate open before and he never went through it
  • catladyclub I would tell her we get rid of BOTH dogs or no dogs, it is her choice. I would not get rid of my dog for her, it is very weird it came up now, after all this time. I think she just doesn't want your dog there. She cannot complain about dog dander and still want to keep her dog there. If dog dander is causing her reaction then her dog needs to go to!
  • OP pychop10 Her dog is a hypoallergenic breed. I did say that if we get rid of mine she has to get rid of hers. She said that was fine but who knows if it actually comes down to that.
  • Been-There_Done_That But if she does say that, she will have put you in the position of pretending to accept a lie you know isn't true or having a huge confrontation with her in which she attacks you for not believing her. Either way, your dog will be gone forever. Get him chipped. Now.
  • OP pychop10 He is chipped
  • Broseppe Verdi Hold up... She's threatening to go live with someone else if you don't get rid of your dog? As in... Your wife is threatening to leave you for a different romantic partner and immediately cohabitatate with them? Am I understanding that correctly?
  • OP pychop10 She's said her parents I should have said that but yah if she leaves whether it's her parents or not I'm done.
  • OP pychop10 I just want to say thank you for all the helpful comments and making this popular. I am trying to get back to people and answer so questions that everyone has had. My dog means way too much to me for me to just let him go like that. He is an amazing dog and a very easy one besides all the shedding lol. Some people have said to ask her to get rid of hers as well and I stated that to her. She said that was fine which I found extremely weird tbh. She has agreed to go to the doctor final

I do believe her Man... I don't. I think she just doesn't like your dog, or this is some weird power move. Anyway, NTA
  • Digital-Soundboy Get rid of the wife. Keep the dog.
  • Phyllis_marie I used to tell my ex all the time if you try to make me choose between you or my dog, I'm choosing my dog every time. She bait and switched on you, and unfortunately you married her before you knew. She can either adjust or yall can be married and live separately but I'm not getting rid of my baby for anyone in this world. She will be with me until my d_ng breath or her d_ng breath whichever comes first. Your wife could divorce you any moment, your dog will love you for the rest of
